Collaborative Session Management

Session Management

Informal, in-person communication is at the core of scientific collaboration.  Examining and understanding the role and context of collaboration in scientific research is crucial to our ability to support collaboration in the laboratory and workplace.

The goal of this project (also known as CORE2000) is to provide for rich, immediate, small group communications. By relying on third party technologies for basic audio and video conferencing functionality, the project has been able to focus on architecture and the issues of interaction management, usability, and collaborative access to scientific resources.

The objectives of CORE2000 are

  • Develop a real-time collaboration environment, with cross-platform capabilities and integrated session management
  • Partner to deploy in research and education collaborations
  • Iterate based on feedback, enhancing utility and adding tools
  • Use system as a research platform for prototyping next generation functionality, e.g.,  services amd component interfaces
This project is being done at Pacific Northwest National Laboratory.
